Expanding our workforce

The additional roles reimbursement scheme was introduced in England in 2019 as a key part of the government’s manifesto commitment to improve access to general practice.

Through the scheme, primary care networks (PCNs) can claim reimbursement for the salaries (and some on costs) of 17 new roles within the multidisciplinary team, selected to meet the needs of the local population. In expanding general practice capacity, the scheme improves access for patients, supports the delivery of new services and widens the range of offers available in primary care.

A range of roles we offer at The Alliance Teaching Practices include:

  • Paramedics
  • Clinical pharmacist
  • First contact physiotherapists
  • Mental health workers
  • Social prescriber link workers
Translation service

If you require a translation service for your appointment please let reception know at the time of your booking and in which language you wish to have your translation in.

Chaperones for intimate examinations

We understand that it can be embarrassing or difficult to see the doctor or nurse alone for many problems. A chaperone can be provided by the practice to:

  • Provide support, comfort and reassurance to patients
  • Assist in the examination of patients
  • Act as an interpreter
  • Provide protection to healthcare professionals

If you feel you would like a chaperone present at your consultation with a doctor or nurse or any other health professional, please inform reception who will be more than happy to organise one of our specially trained members of staff to support you.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you no longer need you appointment and wish to cancel, please ensure you do so as soon as possible. It is important you do this so that your appointment can be offered to another patient.

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Home visits

The doctors do carry out home visits for patients who are housebound, frail and elderly who are more vulnerable. We ask you to call before 11am to arrange this so that we can assess the need for a visit the same day. However, this is at the doctor’s discretion and they may wish to assess your situation over the phone and advise you appropriately. It is always better for the doctor assess you in the surgery, where your full medical records and diagnostic equipment are available, which leads to a better service to yourself.

On average, four to five patients can be seen in the practice in the time it takes to do a single house call. In addition due the lack of adequate lighting, examination facilities and lack of equipment we may not be able to carry out the same procedures compared to the service you would receive in a health care setting.

To request a home visit, please:

  • Call the surgery you are registered with before 11am
  • Be prepared to tell the receptionist about your condition so we can prioritise the most urgent cases and arrange the most appropriate course of action
  • Ensure the surgery has up to date details of your address and phone number
  • Home visits are not emergency services
  • Home visits should not be made on a regular occurrence
